Leatherdar.
"I don't know what to call the way I can always pick out those guys in a crowd. My friend Martin calls it 'gaydar,' which leads to us having long arguments over whether being able to tag a guy who doesn't know he's gay counts as gaydar.
"Master Trent has another word for it. He calls it 'corruption.'"
The narrator goes on the hunt at a college ballroom dance.

My only note - how come that Fade was still in closet, even though he had an openly gay roommate? Was it not enough to out him?

I'm afraid he didn't tell me. :) Seriously, my narrator didn't know, and since this was written from the point of view of the narrator, I don't know for sure.
The only thing I can offer is that, while the story says that Fade met Dave because they were both philosophy majors, we don't know the circumstances under which they came to room together. It's quite possible that the college assigned them as roommates. In that case, it's unlikely that anyone would suspect Fade of being gay, simply because he had the "misfortune" to room with someone who was gay. Or, perhaps, there were rumors going around, but nobody could actually prove anything.

Probably. It's based on my old hometown, which is 95% Democrat. :)

The description of the dance was nice, I could see them behind my eyelids. And Dave's indulgent appreciation and gratitude was entertaining.
Nice. Thanks.
